Jesca Hoop & The Superbowl

So I found out, thanks to my buddy Chris, that the term "haunting vocals" is totally overused and cliche. So I will refrain from putting on my music critic hat and just say Jesca Hoop is great. Like, really, really great.  I've been listening her album "Hunting My Dress" non-stop this week. Can't get enough.

In other news, Mike returned from Pittsburgh yesterday. He went to his first ever Steelers game. That was quite the game to attend and he had a blast! As for me, after a few years of attempting to get into football, I can now say I am pretty excited about the Superbowl this year. I even have my very own Steelers shirt to boot! HERE WE GO!

Brene Brown: The power of vulnerability | Video on TED.com

Over the weekend we went to visit Mike's family in Pittsburgh. Since we stayed home for Christmas we wanted to catch up, and exchange gifts.

Mike's sister has two adorable little girls who are so much fun to be with. I think one of the reasons people find so much joy in spending time with children is that they are just so open and vulnerable. Then along the way we learn how to judge and how it feels to be judged by others.

I just watched this TED talk and it really inspired me to allow myself - or force myself, because it's not easy - to be a little more vulnerable.

One Good Thing About Facebook

I have a love hate relationship with Facebook. It's really great to keep in touch with people I've known over the years but do I really need to know that you just came back from Wal-Mart? No. Do I still feel compelled to read this information? Yes.

My Uncle Phil, who I haven't talked to in years just joined and he posted some really great old family photos. Here are a few of em:

Dad - must have been before my time cause I NEVER saw him on a bike

Resolutions

It's that time of year again. I'm thinking if I write my resolutions for all the world to see, I will be more likely to actually keep them. Here we go:

Exercise - Yep. Not original. At all. Still, I know how good I feel when I actually do it, and how yucky and sluggish I feel when I don't. This resolution is not about losing weight, but being healthy and feeling great!

Juice it up! - A couple of years ago I bought a juicer after reading the book The Raw Foods Detox Diet by Natalia Rose. Juicing is a wonderful way to get essential nutrients, stay hydrated, and counter act some of the harmful things that we do to our bodies (stress, caffeine, junk food, etc.). I stopped juicing because I found it to be a hassle, but that is no excuse. 2011 I am making it a priority!

Here is a recipe from crazysexylife.com

Green Drink

    •    2 large Cucumbers (peeled if not organic)
    •    Big fist-full of Kale
    •    Big fist-full of Romaine
    •    3 stalks of Celery
    •    1 Pear or Green Apple
    •    1-2 big Broccoli stems
    •    1/2 inch of Ginger

Art - Although I am a graphic designer by profession, I do not consider what I do at work art. Art has always been a big part of my life and I find it so rewarding to express myself creatively. I have not always been great about making time, but at least once a week I want to work on some sort of project whether it be sketching or practicing guitar.

Here's to a fabulous 2011!
